As should be expected, the major source of information in this site was oral tradition. The validity of the facts obtained of each page unearthened, was painstakingly established through scores of interviews with several knowledgeable persons and traditionally accepted authorities on the origin of the Urhobo People.

What was the Urhobo Nation Like?

The area encompassed by the Urhobo Nation was a mixture of wild uncultivated waste lands covered with dense dark forests and quaking morasses, where neither man nor beast might venture. The only real clearings on it were those created by Prince Urhiabo and his children. In fact, it was only through the combined efforts of the great prince and his children that the great plains and uplands of the Urhobo Nation were discovered.

From the darkness of about a century and a half ago, the Urhobo People made necklaces, "Ugben" and other ornaments and especially weapons, from stone and flint tools. Some mental pictures of their daily life can thus be painted. Of their religion, very little was known and it is, therefore , not possible to be quite sure of what gods they worshipped other than the living God.

Our Mission

The demand for an umbrella under which all Urhobo sons and daughters should get together faced the Urhobo people with a difficult decision. The site remains the only way that can solve this problem.

Firstly, the site was published with the deliberate aim of counteracting the glaring and dangerous defect of nearly all thinking, both academic and popular, about contemporary politics from 1949 to 2007, that is to say, the almost total neglect of the factor of power. Today this defect, though it sometimes recurs, when items of a future politics are under discussion, has been to a considerable extent overcome.

Secondly, the main body of this site too readily and too complacently accepts the Urhobo Nation, large and small, as the unit of Nigerian society, though the final pages after some reflections to which subsequent events have added points on the size of the political and cultural units of the future

All relevant quotations from all sources which appears on this site are acknowledged and greeted with choruses profound gratitude and high appreciation.

Urhobo Nation's Profile

The founders of the different clans in Urhobo, it is believed, migrated from different parts of Nigeria and settled on the land where their descendants are now to be formed. These movements were gradual processes which took several years, a continuous efforts to get a suitable place for settlement.

History has it that Prince Urhiabo moved into the Urhobo Nation through Ologbo but on getting to Ologbo river, which had no bridge in those days, and so could not be able to cross over it. With his children, he performed the greatest wonder, possible of his time, to construct a magical bridge, which surprised the entire people of the Benin Kingdom. Prince Urhiabo constructed the bridge by means of a mystical wand and a rod, all combined. When he chanted the incantation, enegbegbetu, Odudurududu and at the same time brandishing the wand and rod over the river, hundreds of hippopotamus emerged from no where, forming a bridge, across the river, through which he and his retinue moved into the land known as the URHOBO NATION.
